This past September in the majestic, stark desert of Joshua Tree CA, two-time Grammy Award nominee Childish Gambino debuted new music from his forthcoming album, Awaken, My Love!, which comes out this Friday on Glassnote Records/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. The immersive, live music experience called PHAROS was captured in virtual reality, a clip of which is live now on the PHAROS earth app.
The video clip of “Me and Your Mama” takes fans inside Gambino’s PHAROS “world” – a 150 foot diameter, 60 foot high dome that held 2,500 fans – a next-level visual display synced with the music. First performed at Bonnaroo in 2015, then experienced at PHAROS this past September, “Me and Your Mama” was soon after premiered by Zane Lowe with a record breaking six plays in a row this past November. Surpassing 19 million streams within weeks, the track immediately flew up the charts achieving #1 Trending Video on the YouTube Trending Charts, #2 on the iTunes R&B/Soul Chart and top #5 on both the Global and U.S. Spotify Viral Charts.
Experienced for the very first time at PHAROS, the album’s lead single “Redbone” amassed over one million streams within the first 24 hours of its release. Similarly to “Me and Your Mama”, “Redbone’” quickly ascended to the top of the charts reaching the #1 and #2 spots on the Global, Canada , UK, Australia and U.S. Spotify Viral 50 Charts.
